Golden Bears Place Eighth at CCC Championship

Spooner finishes 21st overall in 96-runner field

WENHAM, Mass. (October 27, 2018) – The Western New England University men's cross country team placed eighth at the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship on Saturday afternoon on the campus of Gordon College.

The Golden Bears posted a team score of 171 on their way to eighth place in the eight-team field. The University of New England won the team title with a score of 31, while Roger Williams (72), Wentworth (81), Nichols (86) and Endicott (108) rounded out the top five. Gordon placed sixth (155) and Salve Regina edged out Western New England by one point (170). UNE sophomore Jacob Hickey was the top individual finisher after completing the eight-kilometer course in 25:33.3.

Western New England was led by freshman Anthony Spooner (West Bridgewater, Mass.), who placed 21st overall in the 96-runner field with a time of 28:41.6.

Sophomore Adam Monroe (Wilton, N.Y.) and senior Nico Gallo (Ludlow, Mass.) crossed the finish line just two seconds apart in 32nd and 33rd place respectively. Monroe clocked in at 29:25.1, while Gallo posted a time of 29:27.1

Western  New England's final two scoring runners were sophomores Jacob Eberli (Ludlow, Mass.) and Joe Africano (Alexandria, Va.). Eberli finished 40th in 30:14.3, and Africano placed 45th in 30:40.5.
