Western New England Finishes First at Elms Blazer Classic

Spooner turns in second place effort in 30:29

CHICOPEE, Mass. (September 22, 2018) – The Western New England University men's cross country team placed all five of its scoring runners inside the top-11 as the Golden Bears finished first at the Elms College Blazer Classic on Saturday afternoon at Chicopee Memorial State Park.

Western New England posted a team score of 37 en route to first place in the six-team field. Dean College (58) and Johnson & Wales (85) rounded out the top three. Mitchell College junior David Still was the top individual finisher with a time of 30:21 on the eight-kilometer course.

The Golden Bears were again led by freshman Anthony Spooner (West Bridgewater, Mass.), who crossed the finish line second overall in the 50-runner field with a time of 30:39.

Senior Nico Gallo (Ludlow, Mass.) posted a time of 31:14, good for sixth place, while freshman Kyle O'Hern (Lincoln, R.I.), sophomore Jacob Eberli (Ludlow, Mass.) and junior Adam Monroe (Wilton, N.Y.) finished in spots ten through 12.

Western New England will be off next weekend before returning to action on Saturday, October 6 at Westfield State's James Earey Invitational.
