Men’s Cross Country Turns in Eighth Place Finish at Keene State Early Bird Invitational
Anthony Spooner places 27th (17:40.7) to lead Golden Bears
KEENE, N.H. (August 31, 2019) – The Western New England University men's cross country team ran to an eighth place finish at the season-opening Keene State College Early Bird Invitational on Saturday.
The Golden Bears posted a team score of 196 en route to eighth place in the ten-team field. Springfield College won the team title with a score of 60, followed by Fitchburg State (62), Eastern Connecticut State (85) and Suffolk (111). Suffolk's Matyas Csiki-Fejer was the individual champion, earning a time of 15:49.2 on the five-kilometer course.
Western New England sophomore Anthony Spooner (West Bridgewater, Mass.) was the first Golden Bear to cross the finish line, placing 27th in the 64-runner field with a time of 17:40.7.
Making his collegiate debut, freshman Nick Rosselli (Assonet, Mass.) came in five spots after Spooner, finishing 32nd and clocking in at 17:49.2.
Senior Adam Monroe (Wilton, N.Y.) followed in 34th place (17:55.6), while sophomore Kyle O'Hern (Lincoln, R.I.) and junior Jacob Eberli (Ludlow, Mass.) finished 51st and 52nd, respectively, with times of 19:07.3 and 19:22.8.
