Gulls Top WNE in CCC Play

BEVERLY, Mass.  (October 18, 2022) – The Western New England women's volleyball team traveled to Endicott College where they faced the Gulls in CCC competition. The Golden Bears lost to the Gulls after three sets.

  • Western New England: 14-10, 2-4 CCC
  • Endicott College: 15-6, 6-0 CCC

How It Happened: Endicott went on a 7-0 run to begin the opening set. Yemayma Molina earned WNE their first kill to break up the gulls scoring run. The Golden Bears had a spirt of scores that put them only down three to Endicott, 10-7. After a few volleys back-and-forth, the Gulls upped their lead to seven due to a few errors and a couple kills they smashed down, score 17-10. A bad set gave WNE the ball possession, but it was proceeded by a kill and an ace going the other way. The Gulls had forced a nine-point lead, 21-12. The Golden Bears scored again due to attack error. The Gulls quickly responded with two more kills. Taylor Geist broke up the run with a kill of her own. Endicott with one more kill for the set had gained a 10-point lead sitting at set-point and after WNE scored a couple more times, the Gulls earned the first set win on a service error, 25-16.

Scoring plays began even in the second set with different lead changes and tied scores until a small three-point run for Endicott put them ahead by two, 6-4. It returned to retaliated scoring plays before the Gulls hit another 3-0 run. They now had a seven-point lead 15-8. Sarah Scott answered with a kill for the Golden Bears trying to close the gap. They gave the Gulls two more scores before hitting a three-score run of their own. The score differential was too much for WNE to comeback, and another 3-0 run for the Gulls sealed the deal for the set. The Golden Bears were down two sets.

After an attack error, Molina slammed a kill down to even up the score in set three. Two attack errors put the Golden Bears up 3-1. There was a kill from the other side of the net and then WNE's Hailey Sell got a kill, Becca Mayer with an ace, and Scott with another kill to give them a lead of 6-2. Endicott forced a tie score and took the lead after a six-point run with five kills and a WNE attack error, 11-9. The Golden Bears work their way back to the lead with two kills from Liz Long and Molina and an ace from Kate Lange, 14-13. There was a few more lead changes until the Gulls went for four consecutive scores 20-15. Still fighting, Molina smashed another kill and Mayer earned another ace.
