Baseball’s Villecco Named CCC Player of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (May 1, 2023) – The Western New England baseball team saw senior second baseman Paul Villecco earn CCC Player of the Week after getting a hit in half of his at-bats on the week, which included an explosive 3/3 at the dish while scoring five runs, a home run, and four RBIs against Dean College. 

Villecco, who currently rides an 11-game hitting streak, got off to a good start to the week in an action packed six games in six days, going 1/3 at the plate, which included a double against Nichols College. In a home game against Dean College, Villecco piled up the hits, runs, and RBIs, going 3/3 at the plate, scoring five times, belting a home run, and collecting four RBIs to pace Western New England to victory. The next night, Villecco smacked another double to break open the game for the Golden Bears while collecting four RBIs in the 9-0 win over Brandeis University. The Cheshire, Connecticut native completed the weekend by going 4/9 at the plate, grabbing a triple, home run and three additional RBIs on the week, completing the week with two home runs, six total extra base hits and 11 RBIs. 

On the season, Villecco has collected 78 total hits and is hitting .341 at the plate. The senior has collected 17 extra base hits, including seven doubles, five triples, and five home runs while collecting a career best 31 RBIs. Villecco has also stolen 11 bases on the season. 

The Golden Bears are back in action on Wednesday, May 3 at 4:00 PM to take on Wentworth Institute of Technology. The regular season wraps up with two top-25 opponents on the schedule as WNE travels to Defending NCAA DIII Baseball National Champion No. 13 Eastern Connecticut on Thursday, May 4 at 5:00 PM before hosting No. 5 Endicott for a doubleheader on the final day of the regular season before the CCC playoffs begin.
