Salisbury Defeats Football 40-14
SALISBURY, Md. (September 25, 2021) – The Golden Bears made the trip to Salisbury, Maryland to challenge the Salisbury Sea Gulls for the first time since 2011 earlier today and fell 40-14.

How It Happened:
Salisbury opened the scoring in the game with a 50-yard run for a touchdown followed by a safety to lead the Golden Bears 9-0. Before the first quarter ended, the Sea Gulls scored again on a five-yard run to take a 16-0 lead heading into the second quarter.
The Golden Bears opened the second quarter with a touchdown pass to Steven Fedorchak for 21-yards followed by a good kick from Matt Gilbert to put the Golden Bears on the board. Not long after Western New England scored again with EJ Dudley running into the endzone followed by a good extra point to get the Golden Bears within two (16-14) of the Sea Gulls. Before the half was over, the Sea Gulls punched in another touchdown to lead 23-14 at halftime.
Salisbury remained in control the remainder of the game, recording a field goal and two touchdowns to defeat the Golden Bears 40-14.
Inside the Numbers:
- The Golden Bears tallied 16 first downs to the Sea Gulls 19 while Western New England had a 36% efficiency on third down and a 33% efficiency on fourth down.
- Bryce Karstetter went 20-for-32 passing for a total of 162 yards and one touchdown.
- EJ Dudley led the running backs with 11 carries for 24 yards and one touchdown.
- Steven Fedorchak tied the program record for touchdown catches with one in the game and a total of seven catches for 89 yards.
- Gilbert went 2-for-2 on extra points while Zac Christian punted three times for a total of 132 yards.
- Bailey Devine-Scott led the defense with 12 tackles and one interception while Joshua Salem tallied 11 tackles.
