Women’s Soccer Falls to Springfield College, 1-0

Alex Lemekha finishes with 11 saves in net

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 4, 2019) – The Western New England University women's soccer team fell to crosstown rival Springfield College, 1-0, on Wednesday evening in non-conference action at Brock-Affleck Field.

Top Performers
Springfield sophomore Kaleigh Dale (Mansfield, Conn.) scored the only goal of the contest for the home team, while sophomore goalkeeper Emma O'Sullivan (Westford, Mass.) posted a two-save shutout.

Western New England senior goalie Alex Lemekha (Stamford, Conn.) turned in her second straight 10+ save performance with 11 stops in the setback.

Game Review
Springfield took a 1-0 lead on a free kick in the 25th minute, as Dale buried a shot into the lower right corner of the net.

Western New England had an opportunity to equalize late in the first half, when junior Christina Sordi (Bethlehem, Conn.) got the ball past a charging O'Sullivan, but Springfield freshman Hannah Sullivan (Manchester, Conn.) was able to clear the ball before it found the net.

The Pride controlled play in the second half, outshooting the Golden Bears 17-3 en route to the 1-0 win.

• Springfield outshot Western New England 30-5 overall and held an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks.
• Lemekha has a 0.50 goals against average and a .955 save percentage through two games this season.
