Women’s Soccer Falls to Roger Williams on Senior Day, 4-1

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Western New England University women's soccer team surrendered a pair of first half goals en route to a 4-1 loss to Roger Williams University on Saturday morning in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Suprenant Field.

Before the start of the contest, Western New England honored its seven seniors – Alex Lemekha (Stamford, Conn.), Kaeli Serafino (Ludlow, Mass.), Amanda Gagnon (Newington, Conn.), Jordan Gilmore (Waterbury, Conn.), Taylor Gilmore (Waterbury, Conn.), Julia Sarnelli (Island Park, N.Y.) and Gabrielle Delos (Chepachet, R.I.).

Top Performers
Western New England's lone goal was tallied by sophomore Allison Bruehwiler (Old Saybrook, Conn.) in the second half.

Roger Williams utilized four different goal scorers, as senior Gabbi Rozumek (Woodstock, Vt.), sophomores Sammy Jost (Ringwood, N.J.) and Kelly Yadoff (Wyckoff, N.J.), and freshman Bianca Robbins (Johnston, R.I.) all found the back of the net.

Game Review
The Hawks struck first just 3:29 into the contest. Following a throw in from the far side by junior Bailey Lavoilette (Agawam, Mass.) that landed in the box, Rozumek took one touch and fired a shot past Lemekha to give Roger Williams a 1-0 lead.

In the 31^st minute, the visitors doubled their advantage in the aftermath of a corner kick, as Jost was able to pounce on a loose ball and bury it into the net.

Early in the second half, Robins forced a costly Western New England turnover and was able to take the ball in on Lemekha unopposed, dribbling around the goalkeeper before slotting home the third goal of the day for the Hawks.

The Golden Bears broke through with seven minutes remaining in the contest, when Bruehwiler placed a floating shot over the outstretched arms of Roger Williams sophomore goalkeeper Morgan Strassburg (Longmeadow, Mass.) and into the upper right corner of the net.

The Hawks restored their three-score lead with 1:18 to play, however, as sophomore Lexi Larson (Norton, Mass.) sent a free kick into the box and Yadoff headed it just inside the post to cap the scoring in the game.

• The Hawks outshot the Golden Bears 16-11 and held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.
• Bruehwiler's goal increases her team-leading point total to 15.
