Baseball Releases 2023 Schedule

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (February 10, 2023) – After their successful postseason last year, the Western New England baseball team will set their sights on making it to another championship series in the CCC, unveiling their 2023 schedule today with less than a month before first pitch to open the 2023 season.

The Golden Bears will open their 2023 schedule on the road, traveling to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Wednesday, March 1 at 3:00 pm. Western New England will then return to Springfield and make the short drive to Springfield College for twin ball on Saturday, March 4at 12:00 pm. Before heading to the RussMatt Invitational in Winter Haven, Florida, Western New England baseball will open their home schedule by welcoming the Mammoths of Amherst College to Trelease Park on Sunday, March 5 at 1:00 PM.

WNE will play a total of seven games in Florida as part of their annual Spring Break trip, playing six different opponents. The Golden Bears will start with Anna Maria College on Saturday, March 11 at 2:00 PM for a double header with the AMCATs. WNE will also meet Stockton University (March 12), Ithaca College (March 13), Farleigh Dickinson University – Florham (March 15), Minnesota Morris University (March 16) and New York University (March 17) during the Spring Break trip. 

The Golden Bears will remain on the road for one final game before returning home on March 21, taking on Clark University. WNE returns to Trelease Park to take on Massachusetts Maritime Academy on Thursday, March 23 at 4:00 pm. Conference play will open for the Golden Bears on Saturday, March 25 when WNE travels to Roger Williams University for a doubleheader, beginning at 12:00 pm. From there, WNE will begin four straight non-conference games, hosting Westfield State University (March 27), traveling to both Framingham State University (March 28), and UMass-Boston (March 30), and hosting Mitchell College (April 2). 

The Golden Bears get their first crack at conference play on home dirt on Tuesday, April 4 when Nichols College treks to Springfield for a 3:30 pm first pitch. WNE will visit Keene State College on April 5 before opening three straight CCC games. 

The Golden Bears will play two with Suffolk University (April 8) before returning to Trelease Park on Tuesday, April 11 at 3:30 pm to take on the Leopards of Wentworth Institute. The Golden Bears will play a rare night contest under the lights of Mackenzie Stadium in Holyoke, Massachusetts when they take on the Blazers of Elms College on April 12 at 7:00 pm. WNE baseball will host three weekend games on April 15 & April 16, hosting Salve Regina University for a crucial CCC pair while welcoming Wheaton College (Mass.) to Trelease Park for a 1:00 pm first pitch. Western New England will stay busy in the month of April, traveling to Rhode Island College (April 20), hosting Curry College (April 22), and Dean College (April 26) while making stops to Nichols College (April 25), Brandeis University (April 27), and Gordon College (April 29). 

The Golden Bears will wrap up a season long five game road trip in the month of May, visiting Wentworth Institute of Technology (May 2) and reigning NCAA Division III Baseball champion Warriors of Eastern Connecticut State University (May 3). WNE wraps up the 2023 schedule at home, hosting rival Endicott College on Saturday, May 6. 

The Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament will begin on Monday, May 8 with the play-in game between the #7 seed and #6 seed, hosted by the higher seed. Double elimination begins on Wednesday, May 10 and will last until the championship series, which concludes on Saturday, May 13. The Golden Bears sat fifth in last year's CCC tournament and made it all the way to the championship series before falling to second seeded Endicott College in the finals. WNE was the highest seed to make the CCC finals since fifth seeded Roger Williams fell in the championships in 2015.
