Cocks & Bannon Pick up CCC Weekly Accolades

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 22, 2019) – Senior faceoff specialist Hunter Cocks (Walden, N.Y.) and freshman attackman Mike Bannon (Edmond, Okla.) of the Western New England University men's lacrosse team have both been recognized with weekly awards from the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), the league office announced on Monday.

Cocks was named the CCC Specialist of the Week for the third time this season, while Bannon received his seventh CCC Rookie of the Week award.

Western New England went 2-1 last week, defeating Curry 14-10 on the road on Tuesday, before falling at No. 8 Williams 19-7 on Wednesday, and wrapping up the week with a 13-12 triumph over Colorado College at Golden Bear Stadium on Friday.

Bannon fueled the offense with a team-high 11 points (two goals, nine assists) over the two games, while Cocks won 38-of-60 faceoffs, scored two goals and scooped up a team-best 20 ground balls.

In Tuesday's win over the Colonels, Bannon dished out a season-high six assists while Cocks won 12-of-19 faceoffs and collected five ground balls.

The following night against the nationally ranked Ephs, Bannon produced three points (one goal, two assists) and Cocks chipped in with one goal and five faceoff wins.

In the final contest of the week, Bannon tallied one goal and one assist, while Cocks posted a 21-of-29 faceoff effort, scooped up 14 ground balls and scored the game-winning goal with 6:34 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Western New England (11-5, 7-0 CCC) wraps up its regular season slate on Wednesday night at home against Salve Regina at 7 p.m.
