Golden Bears Sweep CCC Weekly Men’s Lacrosse Awards

Ward, Weiss, Cocks & Bannon recognized

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 29, 2019) – Western New England University has swept the Commonwealth Coast Conference's (CCC) Weekly men's lacrosse awards, the league office announced on Monday.  

Senior attackman Jared Ward (Littleton, Mass.) was named the Offensive Player of the Week, while sophomore Mitch Weiss (Westfield, Mass.) collected Defensive Player of the Week accolades. Additionally, senior faceoff specialist Hunter Cocks (Walden, N.Y.) was selected as the Specialist of the Week, and freshman attackman Mike Bannon (Edmond, Okla.) received his eighth Rookie of the Week award.

Western New England wrapped up its regular season slate with a 19-8 victory over Salve Regina on Wednesday, as the Golden Bears finished CCC play with a perfect 8-0 record.

Ward paced the offense against the Seahawks with four goals and one assist, while Bannon produced three points with two goals and one assist.

Cocks was dominant at the faceoff X, winning 17-of-20 opportunities and scooping up a game-high 11 ground balls, while Weiss totaled six ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Western New England (12-5) hosts Curry in the CCC Tournament semifinals on Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m.
