Hunter Cocks Named USILA Scholar All-American

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (July 10, 2019) – Hunter Cocks (Walden, N.Y.) of the Western New England University men's lacrosse team has received Scholar All-America recognition from the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA)/Warrior and New Balance for his performance on the field and in the classroom.

Cocks adds this honor to a long list of accolades following his senior campaign. The faceoff specialist was named a USILA Honorable Mention All-American in addition to collecting IMLCA All-Northeast Region second team and All-Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) first team recognition. Cocks also represented Western New England at the USILA North-South Senior All-Star Game and the NEILA East-West Senior All-Star Game. He was named to both the CCC Spring All-Academic Team and the NEILA All-Academic Team.

To be eligible for USILA Scholar All-America honors, a student-athlete must be nominated by his coach, have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale, and must either be a USILA All-American, a member of the USILA North-South All-Star Team, or an outstanding conference player.

This past spring, Cocks won 293-of-447 faceoffs for a .655 percentage that led the conference and ranked 24th in NCAA Division III. He also ranked 18th nationally with 9.20 ground balls per game (184 total ground balls) and recorded a career-high 12 points with seven goals and five assists.

Over the course of his four-year career, Cocks appeared in 60 games, winning 684 faceoffs in 1,080 attempts (.633). He compiled 421 ground balls and finished with 33 points on 20 goals and 13 assists. Cocks was a member of three CCC championship teams, winning back-to-back titles in 2018 and 2019.

Cocks graduated from Western New England in May with a degree in mechanical engineering and held a 3.55 GPA.
