Jessie-Gerelli Picks Up First Ever Women’s Ice Hockey Goalkeeper of the Week Award

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (November 1, 2021) – After opening their season on home ice for the first time ever, the Western New England women's ice hockey team completed multiple firsts on the night, including their first win of their inaugural season. The Golden Bears can add another first to their resume, as goalkeeper Rieley Jessie-Gerelli was named Goalkeeper of the Week as announced by the conference office today.

Jessie-Gerelli made the first start of the season for Western New England, settling into the game very quickly as the Golden Bears opened their season by hosting Anna Maria College. Jessie-Gerelli made 11 first periods saves to keep the Golden Bear in front. Jessie-Gerelli came away with 21 saves in the three periods of play without allowing a goal, sending Western New England to their first ever win in their inaugural season, taking down the AMCATs 4-0.

Western New England would see Anna Maria on the following night, shutting the door again, picking up another 4-0 victory. The Golden Bears look to continue their winning ways as they travel to Curry College on Friday, November 5 at 7:00 pm before returning home on Saturday, November 6 at 7:00 pm from the Olympia Ice Center.
