Women’s Ice Hockey Shutout by Curry College 3-0

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (November 6, 2021) – The Western New England University women's ice hockey team was unable to find the back of the net in their fourth game of the season, taking their first loss in program history at the hands of the Curry College Colonels 3-0 from Olympia Ice Center on Saturday night while Curry College picks up their first win in their program's history.

Records:

  • Western New England: 3-1 (1-1 CCC)
  • Curry College: 1-3 (1-1 CCC)

How it Happened:
Both Western New England and Curry battled for puck possession in the first 20 minutes of the contest as both Anna Langton for Curry and Rieley Jessie-Gerelli for Western New England were tested between the pipes for both squads. Jessie-Gerelli continued to add to her save total this season, making 13 stops in the first 20 minutes of action while Langton stopped eight first period Golden Bear shots.

Curry would open the scoring in the game just under nine minutes of action into the second period. Mya Morningstar would find Grayson Goolgasian towards the back post and Goolgasian would make no mistake in putting in her first career collegiate goal. Curry would continue their second period attack and would see the Golden Bears take two penalties in succession to head onto the ice with a five on three advantage. Curry's Paige Rodriguez would take a shot that deflected off Jessie-Gerelli and off Asher Printzen who deflected the puck into the net as the second period clock expired to give the Colonels the 2-0 lead heading into the intermission. Curry would outshoot WNE in the second period 19-2.

Western New England would not be able to find their scoring ways as Curry punched in one final goal of the game on a goal from Paige Rodriguez who collected a powerplay tally just one minute and one second into the third period of action. WNE would come away with ten shots in the third period, though the Golden Bears were unable to solve Anna Langton, who preserved the 20 save shutout to secure Curry's first ever women's ice hockey win in their program's history.

  • Western New England was whistled for seven infractions in the contest, putting Curry on the advantage in which they cashed in twice out of their three goals on the night.

  • Rieley Jessie-Gerelli made 40 saves for Western New England marking her second straight 40 save performance. Jessie-Gerelli has recorded 101 saves in three games this season.
