Alex Lemekha Earns Second CCC Defensive Player of the Week Award

CCC Release

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 29, 2018) – Junior goalkeeper Alex Lemekha (Stamford, Conn.) of the Western New England University women's soccer team has been named the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season, the league office announced on Monday.

Lemekha earns this honor for her performance in Western New England's regular season finale at Roger Williams last Tuesday night.

The Stamford, Conn. native stopped six of the seven shots that she faced, including two in the second overtime period, as the Golden Bears earned a 1-1 draw with the Hawks and clinched the fourth seed in the CCC Tournament.

In Saturday's quarterfinal contest, Lemekha made five more saves as Western New England defeated Roger Williams in a penalty kick shootout to advance to the semifinal round for the second consecutive season.

Lemekha, who was named to the All-CCC third team last week, has gone 3-1-2 with a 1.21 goals against average and an .821 save percentage in nine appearances and seven starts this season.

The Golden Bears (8-7-4) will be on the road at top-seeded Endicott College in the CCC semifinals on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in Beverly, Mass.
