Grimes named to second team, Bruehwiler collects third team honors

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (December 19, 2018) – Senior defender Erin Grimes (Attleboro, Mass.) and freshman forward Allison Bruehwiler (Old Saybrook, Conn.) of the Western New England University women's soccer team have both earned All-New England honors from the New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA), the organization announced on Wednesday.

Grimes adds NEWISA second team honors to her list of accolades following her final collegiate campaign. She was also named an All-Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) first team performer in addition to receiving an invitation to the NEWISA Senior Bowl.

The two-year captain started all 19 of the matches that she appeared in for the Golden Bears before suffering a season-ending injury late in the campaign.

Bruehwiler collects NEWISA All-New England third team recognition after garnering CCC Rookie of the Year and All-CCC second team accolades as a freshman.

Bruehwiler was able to make an immediate impact for Western New England, starting 15 of the 21 contests that she appeared in and tying for the team lead with 15 points (six goals, three assists).

Western New England's successful 2018 campaign culminated in the program's first appearance in the CCC title game since 2009. The Golden Bears knocked off top-seeded Endicott on the road in the semifinals before falling to UNE in the championship contest.
