West Islip, N.Y. native made 33 saves over two Western New England wins

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 23, 2018) –
For the first time this season and sixth time in her career, senior goalie Shannon McFadden (West Islip, N.Y.) of the Western New England University women's lacrosse team has been recognized as the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday afternoon.

McFadden led the Golden Bears to a pair of wins last week, making 33 total saves in the process.

In Tuesday's senior day contest against Western Connecticut, she made 13 saves as Western New England rallied to earn a 14-13 victory over the Colonials at Golden Bear Stadium.

McFadden then matched her career-high with 20 stops on Saturday in a 12-11, double overtime triumph at Salve Regina.

A two-time All-CCC selection, McFadden earned first team honors last spring. She collected five CCC Defensive Player of the Week awards during her sophomore season in 2016.

Western New England (6-10, 4-3 CCC) hosts Gordon College on Tuesday at 4 p.m. with an opportunity to secure a home game in the first round of Saturday's CCC Tournament.
