Western New England Lands Four on All-CCC Third Team

CCC Release

McFadden, Breen, Ruby & Miller represent Golden Bears

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 27, 2018) –
Four members of the Western New England University women's lacrosse team earned All-Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) honors, the league office announced on Friday morning.

Senior goalkeeper Shannon McFadden (West Islip, N.Y.), junior attack Kristen Breen (Ellington, Conn.), sophomore attack Eileen Ruby (New Fairfield, Conn.) and freshman midfielder Reilly Miller (Goshen, N.Y.) were all named to the third team.

McFadden caps her career with her third straight All-CCC selection after receiving second and first team honors as a sophomore and junior in 2016 and 2017, respectively. The senior captain made 10+ saves in eight of 15 contests while posting a 15.12 goals against average and a 44.7 save percentage. Her 580 career saves rank second in program history, while her 23 wins and 11.95 goals against average are good for third and ninth, respectively, on Western New England's all-time list.

Breen garners her first career All-CCC honor following a breakout campaign in which she led the Golden Bears offensively with 45 points on 35 goals and ten assists. After being limited to seven points over Western New England's first nine games of the season, Breen did the majority of her damage down the stretch. The Ellington, Conn. native recorded seven points (five goals, two assists) in a 21-8 win over Wentworth on April 4th, and followed that up two games later with a career-high ten points (nine goals, one assist) against Nichols on April 10th. Over Western New England's final eight games of the regular season, she compiled 38 points with multi-point performances in all but one contest.

Ruby also earns her first All-CCC selection after leading the team with 45 draw controls and ranking second with 41 points (24 goals, 17 assists). The sophomore tallied multiple points in 11 of 17 contests and secured multiple draws 12 times. She helped the Golden Bears finish the regular season strong with three straight wins, scoring the game-winning goals in a 14-13 win over Western Connecticut (4/18) and a 12-11, double-overtime triumph at Salve Regina (4/21) before racking up a career-high nine points (six goals, three assists) in Tuesday's 16-15 victory over Gordon.

Rounding out Western New England's four All-CCC selections is Miller, who made an immediate impact during her first season with the program. The freshman totaled 35 points, good for third on the team, and also added 27 ground balls, 19 draw controls and ten caused turnovers. Miller scored a goal in her collegiate debut against Springfield College on February 24th, and went on to record at least one point in 12 of Western New England's 16 contests. She posted a season-high six points (five goals, one assist) in the Golden Bears' 14-9 win over Husson on April 12th, and capped the regular season with five goals on Tuesday against the Fighting Scots.

Western New England (7-10, 5-3 CCC), which earned the third seed in the CCC Tournament, will host sixth-seeded University of New England in a first round contest on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Golden Bear Stadium.
