Four Golden Bears Ranked in Week Two of New England Wrestling Association Individual Rankings

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (November 18, 2022) – With the second week of individual rankings released by the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA), the Golden Bears men's wrestling team sees four of their own in the top eight of their respective weight classes. 

In the 133 lb. weight class ranks Corey Cope for WNE. Cope came away with his first victory of the season at the Ithaca Invitational on November 4, defeating New England College's Griffin Murray via an 8-2 decision.Cope is not ranked 8th in New England in the 133 lb. weight class. 

Sean Monteiro sits 7th in the 165 lb. weight class. The senior has collected a 2-2 record on the young season, defeating Springfield College's Billy Blumenthal at the Ithaca Invitational on a techfall decision, 18-2, picking up his first victory of the year. Monteiro came away with his second win of the season at the Springfield City Championships last weekend, defeating Myles Leonard of Springfield College via major decision, winning 15-2. The Wilbraham, Massachusetts native looks to continue his winning ways this weekend at the Doug Parker Invitational, hosted by Springfield College. 

CJ Glaropoulos ranks seventh in the 174 lb. weight class after going 5-2 for Western New England over his first seven matches of the season. Glaropoulos defeated Steven Felice of Oswego State University via major decision at the Ithaca Invitational while moving into the quarterfinals of the weight class. Glaropoulos went on to defeat Carter Lloyd of Baldwin Wallace University via a 5-3 decision, reaching the semifinals of the invitational. The Mansfield, Massachusetts native took fifth place in the event. CJ went on to best Noah Beal Hernandez of Springfield College at last weekend's Springfield City Championships, to move to 5-2 on the season. 

Rounding out those ranked for the Western New England men's wrestling team was Darby McLaughlin, who currently ranks fourth in the 197 lb. weight class. McLaughlin has competed in eight matches so far this season for the Golden Bears, seven of which came at the Ithaca Invitational. McLaughlin defeated Trevor Carter of Greensboro College and Zach Vasquez of Norwich University while placing sixth in the 197 lb. weight class in the invitational. McLaughlin competed in one event last weekend at the City of Springfield Invitational, defeating Springfield College's Sam Ware via major decision to move to 5-3 on the season in his eight total matches. 

The Western New England men's wrestling team will continue their 2022-2023 schedule this weekend, traveling a short distance to Springfield College for the Doug Parker Invitational.
