Men’s Basketball Scores 112 Points in Victory over Gordon

WENHAM, Mass. (January 7, 2020) – The Western New England University men's basketball team used a 71-point second half to defeat Gordon, 112-98, in CCC action on Tuesday evening at the Bennett Center.

Top Performers
The Golden Bears had a number of outstanding performances. Senior guard Tim Reilly (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) had 24 points. Junior guard Alex Sikorski (Rocky Hill, Conn.) had 24 points, eight rebounds, and five assists. Junior forward Zachary Tavitian (Milford, Conn.) had a double-double, scoring 21 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.

Senior guard Mike McGuire (Garden City, N.Y.) scored 15 points and provided nine assists. Senior guard Nick DeGennaro (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) also scored 15 points.

Senior guard Eric Demers (Acushnet, Mass.) led the Fighting Scots and all scorers with 32 points.

Game Review
There were eight lead changes over the course of the first eight minutes of the game. Gordon had an 18-16 lead at the 12:11 mark, then the Golden Bears went on a 13-2 run to take a 29-20 over the Fighting Scots, with Reilly scoring six of the 13 points.

The Fighting Scots outscored the Golden Bears 15-12 over the remaining seven minutes of the half. Tavitian and Sikorski both scored in double figures in the first half, scoring 13 and 10, respectively 

Western New England came out strong to begin the second half, connecting on two made 3-pointers in the first 1:30, made by DeGennaro and McGuire, to give the Golden Bears a 49-38 lead. Gordon continued to chip away at the lead, eventually cutting it to a four-point deficit. Demers made a layup to make the score 86-82 in favor of the Golden Bears with 4:35 to play.

The Golden Bears scored 26 points over the remaining four minutes to secure the 112-98 victory. DeGennaro, Sikorski, McGuire, and Reilly all scored in double figures in the second half, with Reilly leading the way with 16 points

• Western New England is now 3-1 in CCC play this season.
• All five starters for the Golden Bears scored 15+ points.
