Men’s Basketball Downed by Endicott

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (January 25, 2020) – The Western New England University men's basketball team fell to Endicott on Saturday afternoon by a score of 110-97 at the Alumni Healthful Living Center.

Top Performers
Endicott was led by freshman Jalen Echevarria (Lynn, Mass.), who led all scorers with 23 points. Junior Jordan Pettway (Bridgeport, Conn.) added 21 points.

Western New England was led by junior guard Alex Sikorski (Rocky Hill, Conn.), who scored 20 points. Senior guard Nick DeGennaro (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) scored 17 points, while junior forward Zachary Tavitian (Milford, Conn.) tallied a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Game Review
Neither team was able to create separation within the opening portion of the game with the game tied at 17-17 with 12:41 remaining in the half. After a timeout by Western New England, the Golden Bears went on an 8-0 run capped off by an And-1 by senior guard Tim Reilly (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) to take a 25-17 lead.

The Golden Bears extended their lead to 40-29 when senior guard Mike McGuire (Garden City, N.Y.) hit a 3-pointer with 5:50 remaining. Western New England held the lead until a 3-pointer from Endicott senior Mathew Catizone (Woburn, Mass.) gave the Gulls 48-47 lead going into halftime.

The Gulls extended their lead to 12 when Catizone hit another 3-pointer with 12:55 remaining in the game to give Endicott a 78-66 lead. The Golden Bears cut the lead down to five when senior guard Cole Eiber (Albertson, N.Y.) made a layup with 8:54 remaining.

The Gulls held off the Golden Bears for the remainder of the game to see out the victory.

• Both teams combined for 33 3-pointers.
• DeGennaro's 17 points are a career-high.

Western New England (11-7) will travel to Roger Williams on Tuesday evening. Endicott (14-4) will host Nichols on Tuesday evening.
