CoSIDA Academic All-District Release

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Junior guard Alex Sikorski (Rocky Hill, Conn.) of the Western New England University men's basketball team has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team for the first time in his career.

CoSIDA's Academic All-District Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. In order to be eligible, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or higher, have reached sophomore academic and athletic standing, and be a significant on-field contributor.

Sikorski, a finance major with a 3.92 cumulative GPA, was a Commonwealth Coast Conference All-Academic selection in 2018-19. He is a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta and Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Societies. Sikorski earns CoSIDA Academic All-District for the first time in his career.

Sikorski serves as the Team Impact representative for the men's basketball team.

On the court, Sikorski has been a key contributor for the Golden Bears that just finished their regular season and captured the #3 seed going into the CCC Tournament. He has played in all 25 games, starting 24 of them, and has averaged 19.1 points and 5.6 rebounds per game this season. Sikorski was named CCC Player of the Week once this season.

Through his career, Sikorski has started in 51 of 78 games played. On February 15, Sikorski became the 26th player in Western New England men's basketball history to reach 1,000 career points.

Sikorski is among five student-athletes to earn Academic All-District honors from District 1, which includes schools in Massachusetts and Maine. He is the sole representative from the CCC. With Sikorski's selection to the CoSIDA Academic all-District Team, he advances to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. Academic All-America honorees will be announced in early March.

Western New England wrapped up their 2019-20 regular season with a 15-10 record, including a 10-6 mark in CCC play that was good for third in the league standings. The Golden Bears will host their quarterfinal matchup on Tuesday, February 25, at 7:00 p.m.
