Men’s Basketball wins Fifth Straight Game with 92-74 win over University of New England

BIDDEFORD, Maine. (January 18, 2020) – The Western New England University men's basketball team won their fifth straight game with a 92-74 win over the University of New England at the Harold Alfond Forum on Saturday afternoon.

Top Performers
The Golden Bears were led by a career-high 30 points from senior guard Tim Reilly (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.).Senior Mike McGuire (Garden City, N.Y.) scored 18 points, while junior forward Zachary Tavitian (Milford, Conn.) added 18 points.

The Nor'easters were led by 15 points from senior Jackson McCoy (East Montpelier, Vt.) and 13 points from junior Avery DeBrito (New Bedford, Mass.).

Game Review
The Nor'easters got ahead early, taking a 12-5 lead when junior Alex Kravchuk (Mansfield, Conn.) hit a 3-pointer just over three minutes into the game. The Golden Bears grabbed their first lead of the game when McGuire capped off an 8-0 run to take a 13-12 lead.

After taking a 17-14 lead, the Golden Bears went on a 12-0 run to take a 26-17 lead. U. of New England cut the Western New England down to four when freshman Siddiq Canty (Dallas, Texas) made a layup to make the score 33-29 in favor of the Golden Bears. The Golden Bears would take a 44-39 lead going into halftime.

Tavitian led a strong start for the Golden Bears to begin the second half, making the first two baskets, both of which were 3-pointers. A layup by sophomore Jared Sancho (North Haven, Conn.) gave Western New England a 65-53 lead with 12:25 to play in the game. The Nor'easters went on a 9-0 run to cut the Golden Bear lead to 65-62.

Both teams traded baskets over the next few minutes. The Golden Bears held a 73-70 lead with 6:43 to go in the game. They went on a 19-4 run for the remainder of the game, with Reilly and McGuire combining for 17 of the 19 points, to secure a 92-74 win.

• Western New England eclipsed 90 points for the sixth time this season.
• Western New England is now 6-1 in CCC play this season.
