Cross Country Hosts WNE Golden Bear Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 15, 2022) – The Western New England men's and women's cross-country teams hosted the WNE Golden Bear Invitational on Saturday morning, seeing the men's side place 4th out of nine teams while the women's side placed 6th out of seven teams. 

How it Happened:
With a 10:30 AM shotgun start, the Western New England women's cross-country team got off to a quick start. The Golden Bears top runner, Keara Mooney finished in 19th place of 73 total runners. Mooney finished with a time of 26:17 in the 6K race. Nina Garofalo placed in 28th place for Western New England, finishing the race at 27:21. Victoria Burke placed in the top 40, finishing at 40th in the race, completing the race in 28:21. Also competing for the Golden Bears were Davis Farrow, Katie Burnham and Alyssa Clemence. Smith College pulled out the top spot in the race, having the top four finishes in the race. 

The WNE men's cross-country team completed an impressive showing on Saturday, finishing 4th out of nine teams. Matt Provost finished as the top runner for the Golden Bears, finishing 6th in the race with a time of 27:41 in the 8K. Joshua Bellman finished at 29:33, good for 18th place in the race. Joshua Farrell completed the race in just under the thirty-minute mark, capping off at 29:54. Both Nicholas Carlson and Corey Pierce finished in the top 40 for Western New England, with Carlson finishing in 30:31 while Pierce finished the race in 31:08. John Falco was shortly behind his two teammates, finishing in 42nd place at 31:41. John Bieszczad, Lance Tomlinson and Isaac Pedro all competed for WNE in their only home event of the season.
