Jamie Cookingham Named CCC Rookie of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 8, 2019) – Freshman Jamie Cookingham (Warner, N.H.) of the Western New England University softball team has been named the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Rookie of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.

Cookingham was a key offensive contributor in a 5-1 week for the Golden Bears, hitting .444 (8-for-18) with three doubles, a home run and eight RBI. Cookingham also walked twice and scored four runs.

She had at least one hit in all but one contest with three multi-hit efforts. The freshman powered the Golden Bears to a doubleheader sweep of Keene State on Thursday, going 4-for-7 with two doubles and three RBI over the two games.

Cookingham then went 3-for-6 with a two-run homer, the first of her career, on Sunday as Western New England opened its home slate with a pair of wins over Roger Williams.

Cookingham has appeared in all 20 games for the Golden Bears this season. She is hitting .339 (20-for-59) with seven walks, 15 RBI and nine runs scored.

A 2018 graduate of Bishop Brady High School in Concord, N.H., Cookingham was a two-time All-State selection for the Green Giants.
