WNE Takes Down UMass-Dartmouth for First Win of Season

Springfield, Mass. (October 29, 2022) – The Golden Bears got back in the water for their first dual meet of the season. After beating UMass-Dartmouth at their pool last season, WNE welcomed the Corsairs to Springfield. WNE last competed in the RWU invitational, where they placed fourth. UMass-Dartmouth faced Albertus Magnus on October 22 and won that dual meet 121-51.

How it Happened:

The meet started with the 200 Medley Relay. The team of Caitlin Guntly, Amanda Robinson, Alexa Adams, and Caitlin Hall won the race. The 100 freestyle was next, and that saw Amanda Robinson place first with a time of 12:38.72 and Megan Morissey place third. UMass-Dartmouth answered back in the 200 Freestyle by getting first and second place. Alexa Adams took third for the Golden Bears. Guntly then got in the water for the 50 Back and took first with a time of 29.73. The Corsairs took second through fourth place. The 50 breaststroke saw another race won by the Golden Bears. Hailey Dion got a best time of 38.05 to take first place. Caitlin Hall got third place with a time of 38.08. The 100 butterfly saw a one-on-one matchup between the two teams. Guntly took on the challenge and, with a time of 1:08.44, won the race. Kylie Winer won the 50 freestyle race for UMass-Dartmouth. Renee Lussier took second with a time of 28.82. The 100 freestyle was the following event. Hall took first with a time of 1:01.55, and Lussier took third. The Golden Bears were rolling. It continued with Guntly taking first in the 100 backstroke, but UMass-Dartmouth took second, third, and fourth place. Robinson got back in the water for the 100 breaststroke and took the win with a time of 1:17.24. Winer took second for UMass-Dartmouth. Dion grabbed third place for the Golden Bears. 

UMass-Dartmouth won the 500 freestyle, but WNE took second place through fifth place, with Megan Morrissey leading the way in second place. It was a massive best time for Morrissey as it was a drop of over 16 seconds. The 50 butterfly saw Hall and Adams grab first place and third place, respectively. Ella Gerardi grabbed second place by .38. Robinson got first place for the Golden Bears in the following event, the 100 IM. Robinson earned a time of 1:08.65. The final race of the afternoon was the 200 freestyle relay. UMass-Dartmouth won that race with a time of 1:55.43. WNE 'A' consisted of Dion, Morissey, Katarina DaSilva, and Lussier. They earned a time of 1:58.10. The results for WNE were good enough to earn a 139-110 win over UMass-Dartmouth in the first dual meet of the year for the Golden Bears.

The Golden Bears and Corsairs continue their seasons on Saturday, November 5, at UMass-Dartmouth, when they participate in the Louise Goodrum Invitational. That meet will start at 11:00 am.
