Golden Bears Defeat Plymouth State, Fall to ECSU in Double-Dual Meet

Willimantic, Conn. (November 19, 2022) – After three big wins last week, the Golden Bears headed to Willimantic for a double-dual meet with Eastern Connecticut State and Plymouth State. The Golden Bears have had a great start to the season so far and were hoping for some big swims to be able to come out with two wins.

Scores:

WNE: 65 vs. ECSU: 136

WNE: 128 vs. Plymouth State: 56

How it Happened:

The meet started with a second-place finish from the WNE 'A' 400 medley relay team, which consisted of Caitlin Guntly, Amanda Robinson, Alexa Adams, and Caitlin Hall. WNE followed that up with a first and second-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle. Megan Morissey and Renee Lussier led the charge in that race. Hall then grabbed second in the 200 freestyle. The 400-yard IM saw Robinson get second while Guntly got fourth in the 100 butterfly. Hall would then get second place in the 100 freestyle, and Adams got fourth. Guntly then had a best time in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:05.06. WNE dominated the long swims in the meet as they won their second race of the day in the 500 freestyle after winning the 1000 freestyle earlier. Morissey was responsible for the win in that 500 freestyle. The 100 breaststroke was next, and Robinson's swim was good enough for a second-place finish. Finally, in the 400 freestyle relay, the WNE 'A' relay team of Lussier, Hailey Dion, Katarina DaSilva, and Morissey secured second place in that race. After a hard-fought battle between all three teams, Eastern Connecticut State was able to take home the majority of the points in both of their dual meets. WNE took one against Plymouth State and was defeated in the other by ECSU. Plymouth would drop both meets.
