How it Happened:

Day 1:

After a morning of prelim swims, the Golden Bears charged into finals with hopes of big swims. WNE's 200 freestyle 'A' relay, which included Alexa Adams, Caitlin Hall, Caitlin Guntly, and Amanda Robinson, took seventh and improved their seed time by almost a second and a half. That picked up 24 points for the team. Next, Megan Morrissey made finals in the 500 freestyle and grabbed a best time of 6:08.75. That swim picked up four points for the Golden Bears. Alexa Adams was next in the water for WNE. Alexa Adams was right on top of a best time during the 100 butterfly and earned six points for the team with that swim. After the butterfly, Hailey Dion had the 50 breaststroke. Dion would earn a time of 37.68 and bring back three points. The 200 backstroke followed, and that race saw WNE have their best finish to that point. Caitlin Guntly swam a 2:16.40 200 backstroke time and placed third in the entire event. That earned the team 16 points. Next, Caitlin Hall and Renee Lussier would both compete in the 50 freestyle. Hall earned a best time of 27.24 and earned the team five points. Lussier would keep the race close and pick up a point for the team.

The 200 Individual Medley was a major high point for the Golden Bears. Going into finals as the second overall seed in the event, Amanda Robinson did not disappoint. Robinson blasted ahead of the competition and earned a best time of 2:20.90. Robinson touched out the second-place finisher by .05 to win the 200 IM and earn 20 points for the team. The day would finish with the 400 medley relay. The team of Guntly, Robinson, Adams, and Hall took seventh in the final and earned the team 24 more points. After one day of swimming, WNE was in sixth place with 103 total points.
