Guntly Breaks WNE 50 Backstroke Record at Louise Goodrum Invitational

Dartmouth, Mass. (November 5, 2022) – After their first dual-meet win of the season last meet, the Golden Bears traveled out to Dartmouth for the Louis Goodrum Invitational. The invitational was an unscored meet in place to help swimmers improve on times.

How it Happened:

The first event of the meet saw WNE's 200 medley relay team of Guntly, Robinson, Hall, and Lussier get second place. Leading off the relay, Guntly broke the WNE 50 backstroke record with a time of 29.61. Amanda Robinson got first in the 200 freestyle, improving her seed time by almost half a second. Katarina DaSilva had a great swim in that race as DaSilva's time improved by over 29 seconds. The 50-backstroke race saw Caitlin Guntly get first place for the event with a time of 29.80. Taylor Gravel also got a best time by over four seconds in the 50 backstroke. The 50 breaststroke saw Hailey Dion get a best time of the season for the event. Her time improved by almost a whole second. Alexa Adams got second in the 100 butterfly, and then Megan Morissey got a best time of the season in the 50 freestyle with a time of 29.97. Caitlin Hall got in the water for the 100 freestyle and earned second place. Alexa Adams dropped a second and a half in the 100 freestyle, dropping her time down to 1:04.79. DaSilva and Amanda Pillard also earned a best time in the race. Pillard dropped four seconds in the race. 

The 100 backstroke saw Guntly get another first-place finish and a best time of the season. Guntly dropped almost a second in the race. Taylor Gravel also competed in the 100 backstroke. Gravel dropped over six seconds in the race. Robinson earned a first-place finish in the 500 freestyle and dropped over 10 seconds on the path to that win. Pillard also had a big drop in time in the 500 freestyle. Pillard dropped 11 seconds. Guntly got her third best time of the day with a 29.06 50 butterfly. That was good for a third-place finish. The 100 IM was a great race as Robinson tied Eastern Connecticut State's Allison Ronan for first place. That was a best time as well for Robinson by over a second. Dion competed in the race alongside Robinson and earned a best time of 1:17.86. Adams, Hall Robinson, and Guntly swam the 200 freestyle relay together and got second place in the race to finish up the day for the Golden Bears.

The Golden Bears will return to Dartmouth on Friday, November 11, for a tri-meet with UMass-Dartmouth and Elms College. That meet will begin at 3:00 pm.
