Golden Bears Place Fifth at Sisters Invitational

South Hadley, Mass. (January 14 and 15, 2023) – The Golden Bears headed to South Hadley this weekend for the Sisters Invitational at Mount Holyoke College. The women's swim team has had a great season so far and looked to keep the good times rolling in the Sisters Invitational.

How it Happened:

Day 1:

Day 1 started with a sixth-place finish for the 200-yard medley relay team of Alexa Adams, Amanda Robinson, Caitlin Guntly, and Caitlin Hall. Hall would then swim in the 50 breaststroke and place tenth with a time of 39.32. Adams and Hailey Dion followed Hall and swam the 50 butterfly. Adams placed 11th with a 31.47, and Dion took 14th with a 33.10. Megan Morissey swam the 500 freestyle with a time of 6:22.48. Renee Lussier and Katarina DaSilva joined Morissey in the event. Lussier got a 6:39.45 and DaSilva got 6:52.82. Guntly had a big swim in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 30.54 and a fifth-place finish. Taylor Gravel got a 38.53 in the backstroke, and Amanda Pillard swam the race in 43.36. Amanda Robinson was the only swimmer for WNE in the 200-yard IM. Robinson placed ninth and earned a time of 2:23.80. The 50 freestyle saw many Golden Bears swim. Hall, Dion, and Adams highlighted the group. Hall earned a 27.86, Dion got a 28.96, and Adams got a 29.06. The 200-yard medley relay was the next race for WNE. The team of Guntly, Robinson, Adams, and Hall earned seventh place in the race. Then it was time for the 400-yard IM. Robinson stepped up and swam a time of 5:11.93, which was good for eighth place and 11 points. Caitlin Guntly then swam the 100-yard butterfly in 1:09.83. The 200-yard freestyle was another big event for the Golden Bears. Caitlin Hall got sixth with a time of 2:14.21. Morissey, Lussier, and Adams followed in 11th, 12th, and 13th place. Robinson swam the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:17.00 for ninth place. Dion would also swim that race and earned a time of 1:28.89. The 100-yard backstroke race was the final individual race of day one. Caitlin Guntly was able to grab seventh place with a time of 1:07.69. Gravel and Hannah Delude also swam that race, with Gravel getting a 1:24.55 and Delude getting a 1:52.22. Finally, the 800-yard freestyle relay ended the first day of competition. DaSilva, Morissey, Lussier, and Dion swam for WNE in that race and earned a time of 9:43.59, which was good for seventh place. The women were in fifth place after day one.

Day 2:

Day two started with the 1650-yard freestyle, also known as the mile. Morissey swam that race for the Golden Bears and earned sixth place and a time of 22:09.26. The 200 backstroke was next, and Guntly got a time of 2:29.17. After that, WNE had multiple swimmers race in the 100-yard freestyle. Hall was the fastest, with a time of 59.87. Adams, Lussier, and Morissey followed with times of 1:01.72, 1:03.24, and 1:03.69, respectively. The 200-yard backstroke saw Robinson take ninth with a time of 2:50.84 and Dion get 12th with 3:05.54. The day and invitational finished with the 400-yard freestyle relay. WNE's team of Adams, Guntly, Robinson, and Hall got fifth in that race. DaSilva, Dion, Lussier, and Morissey were part of the second team from WNE. They placed eighth with a time of 4:26.98. After day two, WNE finished the invitational in fifth place. 

Up Next:

The Golden Bears return to action next Saturday, January 21, at 11:00 am. They will head to Regis College in Weston, Massachusetts, for a dual meet with the Pride.
