Lyons Swim Past Golden Bears, 146-84

Springfield, Mass. (January 27, 2023) – The Golden Bears welcomed the Lyons of Mount Holyoke College to campus for a dual meet today. The Golden Bears looked to grab a big win for the seniors on senior night. However, the Lyons had other plans as they took down the Golden Bears by a score of 146 to 84.

Mount Holyoke College: 146

How it Happened:

The Golden Bears started the meet with their 200-yard medley relay team of Caitlin Guntly, Amanda Robinson, Alexa Adams, and Caitlin Hall taking second place in the event. It was a best time by almost a second for the team. The 1000-yard freestyle was next, in which Megan Morissey took second with a best time of 12:49.75. Guntly finished after Morissey in third place. Guntly had a time of 12:55.12. The 200-yard freestyle was the following event. Unfortunately, Mount Holyoke took first, second, and third place. Robinson got fourth, and Katarina DaSilva got fifth. DaSilva earned a best time in the swim by over a second. The 100-yard freestyle saw Mount Holyoke have the only swimmers in the event. Then it was time for the 100-yard backstroke. Hailey Dion grabbed second place with a best time of 1:23.27. Taylor Gravel swam the race and finished in fifth place. WNE's next event was the 50 freestyle.

Again, MHC would take places one through three. WNE would counter with places four, five, and six. Hall, Adams, and Lussier were the swimmers in those places. The 100 freestyle saw Caitlin Hall get third Lussier, and Pillard finished out the top six. WNE would win their first event of the night in the 200-yard backstroke. It was Caitlin Guntly taking first place with a time of 2:23.42. The 200 breaststroke saw Robinson grab second and Dion grab fifth. Dion earned a best time of 3:00.66 for the race. The 500 freestyle then saw Hall and Morissey get second and third. Adams claimed sixth place in that race. Guntly got first in the 100 butterfly. Then, Lussier and Dion went one, two for the 200-yard IM. The meet ended with WNE getting first and second in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of DaSilva, Morissey, Dion, and Lussier took first. That was how the meet ended. Mount Holyoke took the competition by a final score of 146 to 84.
