Women’s Wrestling Downed in Tri-Match at Sacred Heart

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (December 11, 2022) – The Western New England women's wrestling team competed in a tri-match on Sunday afternoon with the hosting Pioneers of Sacred Heart University, who are ranked 11th in the most recent NEWA polls and the Dragons of Tiffin University, who sit 19th in the most recent NEWA polls. WNE would pick up one win in both matches. 

How it Happened (vs. No. 11 Sacred Heart)

Kendall Branchaud would lead Western New England with the only win over the 11th ranked Pioneers after a fall victory in 4:34 would give the Golden Bears five points out of the 136 lb. weight class. Olivia Amaral would be defeated in the 116 lb. weight class via fall, while Sabrina Sedor would battle hard with 7th ranked Alexandra Fitzgerald before dropping a fall decision in 2:06 at the 130 lb. weight class. WNE's Greta Hobbs and Lillyann McDorman would bow out of their respective matches due to medical forfeits. WNE would drop a 45-5 contest to the Pioneers. 

How it Happened (vs. No. 19 Tiffin University)

Neither team lined up wrestlers in the 101 and 109 lb. weight classes. Olivia Amaral would start Western New England off at the 116 lb. weight class, being defeated by 7th ranked Jenavi Alejandro in 2:45 via fall. Sabrina Sedor would drop her second match of the afternoon, though continued to battle hard, falling short to Michal Buska in 1:12. Golden Bears' Kendall Branchaud would pick up a fall victory in 45 seconds over Tatiana Bermudez to give the Golden Bears five points on the scoreboard. WNE would not collect another victory on the afternoon, falling 30-5 to the Dragons.
