Brooke Townsend Named CCC Runner of the Week
Portland, Conn. native paced Golden Bears with 35th place finish at James Earley Invitational
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 9, 2018) – Junior Brooke Townsend (Portland, Conn.) of the Western New England University women's cross country team has been named the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Runner of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Townsend led the Golden Bears to a tenth-place finish in the 29-team field at Westfield State's James Earley Invitational on Saturday at Stanley Park in Westfield, Mass.
Townsend posted a personal best time of 19:53.70 on the five-kilometer course, good for 35th place in the 214-runner field.
A 2016 graduate of Portland High School, Townsend competed for the Golden Bears as a freshman in 2016 but did not run last season.
The Golden Bears will be back in action this weekend as they host the annual Western New England Invitational on campus this Saturday, October 13.
