Golden Bears Capture Elms Blazer Classic

Lewis places second overall with time of 25:56

CHICOPEE, Mass. (September 22, 2018) – The Western New England University women's cross country team placed four runners inside the top ten en route to a first place finish at the Elms College Blazer Classic on Saturday morning at Chicopee Memorial State Park.

The Golden Bears posted a team score of 28 to top the six-team field, while Johnson & Wales (37) and Elms (80) rounded out the top three.

Western New England sophomore Samantha Lewis (Goffstown, N.H.) was the top scoring runner, as she placed second overall with a time of 25:56 on the six-kilometer course.

Senior Meagan Dias (Ludlow, Mass.) and junior Brooke Townsend (Portland, Conn.) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 48-runner field. Dias posted a time of 26:03, while Townsend clocked in at 26:12.

Senior Kaitlin Armstrong (Bolton, Conn.) earned a time of 27:07, good for seventh overall, and Ashley Benedict (East Moriches, N.Y.) finished 16th in 29:15.
