Western New England Runs to Sixth Place Finish at CCC Championship

Dias & Townsend both post All-CCC performances

WENHAM, Mass. (October 27, 2018) – The Western New England University women's cross country team ran to a sixth-place finish at the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship on Saturday morning on the campus of Gordon College.

The Golden Bears posted a team score of 125 on their way to sixth place in the eight-team field. The University of New England claimed the team title with a score of 27, while Salve Regina (72), Endicott (80), Roger Williams (100) and Gordon (106) rounded out the top five. UNE senior Emily Wasina was the top individual finisher after completing the six-kilometer course in 22:50.5.

Western New England was led by senior Meagan Dias (Ludlow, Mass.) and junior Brooke Townsend (Portland, Conn.), who placed 13th and tied for 15th, respectively, on their way to All-CCC recogniton. Dias, a three-time All-CCC performer, clocked in at 24:25.0, while Townsend followed six seconds after in 24:31.4.  

Sophomore Samantha Lewis (Goffstown, N.H.) also finished inside the top-20 of the 113-runner field, as she placed 19th overall with a time of 24:45.5.

Western New England's final two scoring runners were senior Kaitlin Armstrong (Bolton, Conn.) and sophomore Makayla Kinnie (Griswold, Conn.). Armstrong's time of 26:33.7 was good for 37th overall, while Kinnie placed 40th in 27:09.5.

Western New England returns to action on Saturday, November 10, when the Golden Bears travel to Brunswick, Maine for the NCAA New England Regional Championship at Bowdoin College.
