Golden Bears Post Top Ten Finish at James Earley Invitational
Townsend paces Golden Bears with 35th place finish in 19:53.70
WESTFIELD, Mass. (October 6, 2018) – Led by a trio of Golden Bears that finished inside the top-45 of the 214-runner field, the Western New England University women's cross country team registered an impressive tenth place finish on Saturday at the James Earley Invitational, hosted by Westfield State University at Stanley Park.
The Golden Bears turned in a team score of 334 and tied Clark University for tenth place in the 29-team field. Smith College won the team title with a score of 92, while Trinity (118), Mount Holyoke (131), Saint Rose (132) and Worcester State (135) rounded out the top five. Saint Rose junior Christine Myers was the top finisher with a time of 18:11.97 on the five-kilometer course.
Western New England was led by junior Brooke Townsend (Portland, Conn.), who placed 35th overall with a time of 19:53.70.
Senior Meagan Dias (Ludlow, Mass.) and sophomore Samantha Lewis (Goffstown, N.H.) finished just over two seconds apart in 44th and 45th place, respectively. Dias recorded a time of 20:04.52, and Lewis clocked in at 20:06.72.
Western New England's final two scoring runners were senior Kaitlin Armstrong (Bolton, Conn.) and freshman Kaleigh Lambert (Tolland, Conn.). Armstrong finished 97th in 21:26.22, while Lambert posted a time of 22:45.27, good for 142nd overall.
