Field Hockey Downed by Camels 2-1

NEW LONDON, Conn. (October 20, 2021) – The Western New England field hockey traveled to Connecticut College earlier this evening where the Camels defeated the Golden Bears 2-1.

Records:

  • Connecticut College: 2-11, 0-8 NESCAC
  • Western New England: 8-5, 3-2 CCC

How It Happened:

The two teams were evenly matched through the first quarter of play with the Golden Bears tallying two shots and two penalty corners while Connecticut College earned six shots and three corners. In the second quarter, the Camels found the back of the net to lead 1-0 just 42 seconds into the second quarter. Just over a minute later, Sarah Johnston passed the ball to Carly-Anna Barba who found the back of the cage to tie the game 1-1. The game went into halftime tied.

The Camels struck again early in the third quarter to take the 2-1 lead which would be the last goal of the game. The Camels outshot the Golden Bears 9-4 in the second half. Despite the Golden Bears efforts, they were unable to find the back of the cage again and fell 2-1 in the non-conference game.

Inside the Numbers:

  • The Camels outshot the Golden Bears 20-11 in the game while leading in penalty corners as well 7-6.
  • Zoey Wexler took the loss in the net recording nine saves for a 7-3 season record.

The Golden Bears return to Springfield on Saturday, October 23rd when they host conference rival Gordon at Golden Bear Stadium for Senior Day at 6 p.m.
