Golden Bears Fall in CCC Semifinals

BEVERLY, Mass. (November 4, 2021) – The No. 3 Golden Bears traveled to No. 2 Endicott for the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Semifinals where Western New England remained in the game for the first half until the Gulls took control to win 5-1.

Records:

  • Endicott: 12-6, 5-1 CCC
  • Western New England: 11-6, 4-2 CCC

How It Happened:

The game opened with the Golden Bears earning a penalty corner in the first four minutes of the game resulting in a shot and then the second penalty corner of the game for Western New England. The remainder of the first quarter was back and forth action until the final minute of the quarter when the Gulls found the back of the net to lead 1-0 after the first 15-minutes of play.

The Golden Bears opened the second quarter flying down the field to get a scoring opportunity in the first five minutes. Emily Campbell caused a foul on the Gulls in the far-right corner to earn herself a free hit. After zig zagging past defenders, she sent a cross pass to just above the stroke line that bounced off a defenders stick for Taylor Klesyk to pick it up and lift the ball into the right back post of the cage past the goalkeeper and a defender to tie the game 1-1. The first half ended with the Golden Bears and Gulls tied 1-1.

The second half was all Endicott. The Golden Bears recorded just three shots in the second half the Endicott's 26. The Gulls notched four goals in the final 30-minutes of the game to earn a 5-1 win in the CCC Semifinals.

Inside the Numbers:

  • The Golden Bears tallied eight shots in the game with five penalty corners while the Gulls earned 37 shots and nine penalty corners.
  • Klesyk earned the one goal for the Golden Bears while Zoey Wexler tallied nine saves in the net.
