Matt O’Dea Earns CCC Player of the Week Honors

Orland Park, Ill. native recorded eight points in 2-1 week for Golden Bears

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (November 27, 2017) –
Junior forward Matt O'Dea (Orland Park, Ill.) of the Western New England University ice hockey team has been named the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday afternoon. 

O'Dea led the Western New England offense with eight points (five goals, three assists) in a 2-1 week for the Golden Bears. He opened his week with two goals (including the game-winner) and one assist in a 4-2 win over Post University on Tuesday.

O'Dea followed that up with an assist in Western New England's 3-1 loss to Southern New Hampshire in the opening game of the Manchester PAL/Stovepipe tournament on Saturday. The junior capped his impressive week with a four-point effort that included his first career hat trick and another game-winning goal as the Golden Bears rallied to defeat UMass Dartmouth, 6-4, on Sunday. 

Through ten games this season, O'Dea leads Western New England with eight goals, while his 14 points are tied for tops on the team. He has recorded at least one point in six games with three multi-point efforts.

O'Dea, who began his collegiate career at Concordia (Minn.) College before transferring to Western New England, has compiled 37 points (19 goals, 18 assists) in 55 career games.

The Golden Bears (4-5-1, 1-4-1 CCC) will be back in action on Friday night, when the Golden Bears host CCC-leading Endicott at 7 p.m.
