Audet Named CCC Senior Scholar-Athlete, Beck Earns All-CCC Third Team Honors
Western New England recognized with Team Sportsmanship Award
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (February 15, 2018) – Two members of the Western New England University ice hockey team were recognized when the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) announced its major award winners and All-CCC selections on Thursday.
Senior defenseman Matt Audet (Campbell, Calif.) was named the CCC Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year, while junior forward Steve Beck (Milton, N.Y.) earned a spot on the All-CCC third team.
Additionally, Western New England was honored as the CCC Team Sportsmanship Award recipient.
A mechanical engineering major with a 3.85 cumulative grade point average, Audet is a two-time Academic All-Conference selection and four-time President's List honoree. He is a member of both the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society and the National Society of Leadership and Success.
Audet completed internships with Smith & Wesson in 2016 and Sanmina last summer, and he currently serves a tutor for Calculus and Differential Equations at WNE. Additionally, he recently developed and distributed a computer application to aid universities and organizations in athletic contest management announcing and music control.
On the ice, Audet has appeared in all 25 games for the Golden Bears this season, and his nine points (all assists) are tied for sixth on the team.
Beck earns All-CCC honors for the first time in his career following a breakout junior campaign. The Milton, N.Y. native was among the most productive players in the conference this season with 31 points (16 goals, 15 assists), which is tied for tenth in the league.
He has recorded at least one point in 15 of 25 games this season, with eight multi-point efforts. His four-point performance (two goals, two assists) in Saturday's 6-2 triumph at Becker helped the Golden Bears clinch the final spot in the CCC playoffs.
Western New England is being honored with the Team Sportsmanship Award for the second straight year after being penalized for a CCC-low 11.6 minutes per game (289 total), a full three minutes fewer than the next closest team.
The eighth-seeded Golden Bears (9-13-3) will travel to top-seeded and No. 5 nationally ranked Salve Regina University (19-4-2) on Saturday at 4 p.m. for the quarterfinal round of the CCC Tournament.
