Christiano’s Goal Not Enough as Golden Bears Drop Second Round of Home and Home with Curry College

MILTON, Mass. (November 62021) – The Western New England men's ice hockey team was unable to get their revenge on the Curry College Colonels on Saturday night after dropping a 3-1 decision at the own rink, the Golden Bears were taken down 5-1 from Canton Ice House.

Records:

  • Western New England: 1-2 (0-2 CCC)
  • Curry College: 4-0 (2-0 CCC)

How it Happened:
Western New England would surrender the game's first goal just past the midway point in the first period when Austin Whelan would convert on an opportunity towards goal, getting a shot past Colten Lancaster, giving Curry the 1-0 lead. Whelan would be assisted by Arty Koppass and Eetu Selanne as the Colonels would flip the script from one night ago, not letting the Golden Bears open the game with a goal. After Josh Bliss was whistled for a penalty late in the first period, the Colonels would cash in on the powerplay when Timmy Kent let go of a shot that found the back of the net to put Curry ahead 2-0. The Colonels out shot Western New England 17-5 in the first 20 minutes of play.

Like Friday night's game, the Golden Bears would score in the beginning seconds of a period as Lliam Christiano would score to cut the Colonels lead in half just 20 seconds into the second period. John D'Aniello and Kyle Knight picked up helpers on Christiano's first career tally with the Golden Bears. Though Christiano would tally, Curry would continue to take it to the Golden Bears scoring three goals in the second period to go up 5-1. Michael Snow, Eelis Laaksonen and Tarek Paranica would all score for Curry to go up by the four goal margin to end the second period. Curry again tallied 17 shots in the period, while Western New England doubled their shots plus one from the first to second periods, grabbing 11.

Both WNE and Curry would play to no additional third period goal, ending the score at 5-1 in favor of the Colonels.
