Christiano Scores Lone Tally in 5-1 Loss to Endicott College

BERVERLY, Mass. (February 11, 2022) – The Western New England men's ice hockey team lost to the Endicott College Gulls on Friday night by a final score of 5-1. Lliam Christiano scored Western New England's lone tally in the loss. 

Records:

  • Western New England: 4-16-2 (2-15-1 CCC)
  • Endicott College: 15-5-1 (12-4-1 CCC)

How it Happened:

Endicott got the game started with the first goal of the contest at the 6:14 mark of the period as Noah Strawn credited the opening mark from Andrew Kurapov and Eric Manoukian to give the Gulls a 1-0 lead. The Golden Bears struggled to find their offensive game all night long, coming away with just seven shots on goal in the first period. Endicott would score their second of the game with under five minutes to play in the period when Svet Kuchynski beat Colten Lancaster on an assist from Mitch Shaheen to give the Gulls a 2-0 lead. Western New England would be granted a powerplay late in the period and make the Gulls pay for the penalty as Lliam Christiano netted a goal for WNE on assists from Shane Miller and John D'Aniello to end the period on a high note for the Golden Bears, marking a 2-1 score. Endicott took 19 shots in the opening period. 

Western New England could only manage five shots in the second period while Endicott came through with another high mark, this time of 20 shots on goal. The Gulls would score just once in the period when Mitch Shaheen collected his second point of the night after taking a wrist shot for the Gulls third goal of the game. Cam Speck and Thomas Albert recorded assists on the goal. WNE could not generate much of an offensive threat, with the period ending at 3-1 in favor of Endicott. 

The Gulls would add two tallies, both in the late minutes of the third period as Eric Manoukian scored for the goals with 1:12 to play in the contest from Matt Giroux and Drew Lorinchak. Derek Contessa would add an empty net unassisted tally to ice the game for the Gulls, sending them away with a 5-1 win over Western New England. 

Inside the Crease:

  • Western New England was outshot 54-21 in the contest, coming away with nine third period shots. 
  • Colten Lancaster made 49 saves on 53 shots on goal. The total marks a career high for Lancaster.
  • Both teams registered a powerplay goal in the contest, with Endicott going 1-5 in the win while WNE went 1-3 in the loss. A total of 48 penalty minutes were called in the contest. 
  • Lliam Christiano netted his 8th goal of the season.
