Golden Bears Roll to 8-0 Victory over Husson in Home Opener

Eight different players score as Western New England wins third straight

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 8, 2018) – The Western New England University men's soccer team put together a dominating performance on Saturday afternoon to earn an 8-0 victory over Husson University in the Golden Bears' home opener at Suprenant Field.

Top Performers
Eight different players recorded a goal for the Golden Bears in the convincing victory. Sophomore Josh Labonte (Ludlow, Mass.) registered a goal and an assist, giving him six points this season. Labonte assisted on a Ty Champagne (Watertown, Conn.) goal that pushed the lead to 6-0 late in the second period.

Senior Josh Loomis (Jefferson, N.J.), juniors Dante Cancellaro (Watertown, Conn.) and Brendan Claflin (Burlington, Mass.), sophomores Matt Remillard (Palmer, Mass.) and Joseph Fortuna (Burlington, Conn.) and freshman Macauley Rouette (Three Rivers, Mass.) also found the back of the net for the Golden Bears.

Game Review
Dominating the possession throughout, the Golden Bears recorded 24 shots on goal. The first strike came seven minutes in from Loomis. Later in the period, Labonte would utilize a break away in the 37th minute, and Prindle found Remillard in front of the net at 37:32 to make it 3-0.

Just five minutes in to the second period, Western New England went up 4-0 on Cancellaro's first goal of the season, and five minutes later senior Nick Liccardi (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) set up Claflin for yet another score.

At the 71:29 mark, Champagne took advantage of a Labonte pass and added to the Western New England cushion. 

As the second period wound down, Rouette collected his collegiate goal to make it 7-0, and Fortuna capped the scoring in the 86th minute.

• Western New England has outscored its opponents 14-0 during the team's current three-game winning streak.
• The Golden Bears outshot the Eagles 24-5 and held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.
