Western New England Blanks Westfield State 3-0 for Fourth Straight Win

Prindle leads Golden Bears with two-goal effort

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 12, 2018) – The Western New England University men's soccer team extended its winning streak to four games with a 3-0 shutout victory over Westfield State University on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action at Suprenant Field.

Top Performers
The Golden Bears were led by junior forward Connor Prindle (Shelton, Conn.), who scored his second and third goals of the season.

Sophomore forward Joseph Fortuna (Burlington, Conn.) also recorded a goal, while senior goalkeeper Sam Brewer (Westford, Mass.) posted a two-save shutout.

Game Review
The Golden Bears nearly got on the board 7:34 into the contest, after junior Bryan Doyle (Southington, Conn.) had his shot saved by Westfield State junior goalkeeper Sean Moore (Feeding Hills, Mass.), but an Owl defender cleared the loose ball from the box.

Ten minutes later, an offside call negated another potential Western New England goal. The Golden Bears finally broke through with just under three minutes remaining before halftime, when Prindle received a pass from Doyle and buried a shot into the top left corner of the net.

Still leading 1-0 late in regulation, Prindle doubled Western New England's advantage at the 85:40 mark on a feed from junior Arcel Kabongo-Ngoy (Franklin Square, N.Y.). Less than two minutes later, Fortuna tacked on another insurance goal to cap the scoring in the contest.
