Jayden Montagna Named CCC Men’s Soccer Rookie of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 24, 2022) – The Commonwealth Coast Conference announced their weekly awards on Monday afternoon, naming Western New England men's soccer first year Jayden Montagna as the CCC Rookie of the Week. 

Montagna helped the Golden Bears take a CCC victory last week over Suffolk University. Montagna opened the game with his first career collegiate assist and followed that up just three minutes later with his second career goal to put the Golden Bears ahead by two. Western New England would finish off Suffolk by a final score of 3-2. 

The first year has played in all 17 games this season for Western New England, making 12 starts. On the season, Montagna has recorded two goals and one assist, good for five points. The Agawam, Massachusetts native has collected 11 shots, placing three on goal and scored the game winning goal on his first goal of the season at Clark University. 

The WNE men's soccer team plays a crucial tilt on Tuesday afternoon when Wentworth Institute of Technology (4-9-3, 2-5-1 CCC) visits Springfield. With a win, Western New England will lock up the three seed in the upcoming CCC men's soccer playoff tournament and will host a CCC Quarterfinal game on Saturday, October 29 and will face the six seed in the tournament, which comes down to Nichols College, Gordon College, Curry College, and Wentworth Institute.
