Western New England/Husson NCAA Tournament Contest Halted in Sixth Inning with Score Tied 4-4

Play will resume Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m.

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. (May 12, 2018) –
The Western New England University softball team's NCAA Tournament regional contest against Husson University on Saturday evening at Cole Field on the campus of Williams College was halted due to darkness with the score tied 4-4 in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Play is scheduled to resume on Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m. with the Eagles at bat with no outs and runners on first and second base.

Top Performers
• Sophomore Aimee Kistner (Taunton, Mass.) is leading the Western New England offense with a 3-for-3 effort, including a double and two RBI. Sophomore Mallory Donelan (Mineola, N.Y.) is 2-for-4 with a double and one RBI, while classmates Carlie Moss (Delmar, N.Y.) and Tori Fisher (Poestenkill, N.Y.) both doubled as well.
• Sophomore Paige Uliase (Meriden, Conn.) started in the circle for the Golden Bears and gave up three runs over five innings.  

• Freshman Madelyn Fowler (East Barre, Vt.) is 3-for-3 with two doubles and two runs for Husson. Junior Kylie Cunningham (Bangor, Maine) is 2-for-3 with three RBI, while sophomore Bri Brochu (Pittston, Maine) and junior Olivia Smith (Calais, Maine) have two hits each.

Game Review
Kistner put the Golden Bears ahead early with a two-out, two-run single in the top of the first inning, but the Eagles answered in the bottom of the second when Cunningham produced an RBI single, scoring Fowler from second base.

Western New England restored its two-run advantage in the fourth on a two-out RBI single by Donelan, before going up 4-1 the following inning when Moss plated freshman Cassidy Howe (North Andover, Mass.) with a double to right field.

Husson closed the gap to one (4-3) in the bottom of the fifth on a two-run single by Cunningham, before pulling even on Smith's RBI single in the sixth. 

Play will resume on Sunday morning with Smith on first base, sophomore Chloe Gorey (Scarborough, Maine) on second, and no outs in the sixth.
