SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (January 16, 2018) –
Senior guard Dorothy O'Neill (Staten Island, N.Y.) of the Western New England University women's basketball team has been named the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Player of the Week for the first time in her career, the league office announced on Tuesday.

O'Neill led Western New England to a 2-1 record last week against three of the top five teams in the CCC standings. She averaged 23.3 points per game on 53.5 percent shooting from the field, 58.3 percent from beyond the arc, and 83.3 percent from the free throw line. The senior captain also contributed 4.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game for the Golden Bears.

O'Neill opened her week with a career-high 33 points, three rebounds and one assist in a close loss at Endicott on Tuesday. She followed that up with 14 points, four boards, and four assists in a 51-40 victory over Curry on Thursday. O'Neill capped her week with 23 points, including 14 in the third quarter, to go with a career-high matching seven rebounds, two assists and one steal as Western New England handed CCC-leading UNE its first conference loss on Saturday in Biddeford.

In 100 career contests (98 starts), O'Neill is averaging 10.7 points, 3.2 assists, and 3.0 rebounds per game. She became Western New England's 15th 1,000-point scorer on January 6 at Nichols College, and currently ranks in the top-five all-time for total assists.

A three-time All-CCC performer, O'Neill earned first team honors as a junior last season. The Staten Island, N.Y. native was a four-time CCC Rookie of the Week during her freshman campaign in 2014-15.

Western New England (9-5, 5-2 CCC) hosts Wentworth tonight at 7:30 in the first of three home games this week for the Golden Bears.
