Dorothy O’Neill to Represent Western New England at NEWBA Senior All-Star Classic

Staten Island, N.Y. native among 21 of region's top seniors to be selected

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (March 21, 2018) –
Senior guard Dorothy O'Neill (Staten Island, N.Y.) has been selected to represent Western New England University in the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Senior All-Star Classic, the organization announced last week. 

O'Neill is among 21 seniors selected by the region's coaches to compete in the game, which will take place on Saturday (March 24) at 1 p.m. at Ainsworth Gymnasium on the campus of Smith College.

O'Neill capped her outstanding career with her fourth straight All-Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) selection this season. She averaged a career-high 13.4 points per game and also contributed 2.9 assists and 2.6 rebounds per game on her way to All-CCC first team honors.

The St. John Villa Academy product led the CCC in made three-point field goals (52), tied for second in assist/turnover ratio (1.9), and ranked fourth in free throw shooting percentage (80.6) during the regular season.

O'Neill scored in double figures in all but six of 27 contests this season, with six 20+ point performances and a career-high 33-point effort at Endicott on January 9. She became Western New England's 15th 1,000-point scorer in program history at Nichols on January 6.

O'Neill will graduate as the program's all-time leader in games started (111), while ranking second in both assists (358) and made three-point field goals (173).

Western New England finished 17-10 (12-6 CCC) in 2017-18 and reached the CCC Tournament semifinals.
