Courtney Carlson Earns First Career CCC Player of the Week Award

Woodbury, Conn. native averaged 17 points, eight rebounds and two blocks per game

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (February 12, 2018) –
Sophomore forward Courtney Carlson (Woodbury, Conn.) of the Western New England University women's basketball team has been named the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Player of the Week for the first time in her career, the league office announced on Monday afternoon. 

Carlson turned in the best two-game stretch of her career, as she averaged 17 points, eight rebounds and two blocks per game in a 2-0 week for the Golden Bears. She shot an impressive 9-of-10 from the field on her way to a career-high 18 points while also grabbing five rebounds in Thursday's 53-35 win at Curry.

Carlson then posted her first career double-double with 16 points, 11 boards, three blocks and three steals on Saturday in a 60-52 victory over Nichols. For the week, she shot 70.8 percent (17-of-24) from the field. Carlson was also named to the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) weekly honor roll for her efforts.

Through 23 games this season, Carlson is averaging 8.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game.

A 2016 graduate of Nonnewaug High School, Carlson played four years of varsity basketball and varsity soccer for the Chiefs. She was a two-time All-Berkshire League selection for basketball, earning Class L All-State accolades as a senior. 

Western New England (15-8, 11-5 CCC) will be on the road at Wentworth on Tuesday night at 5:30 p.m.
