Golden Bears return to action on Saturday against Gordon
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 21, 2016) – The Western New England University women's soccer team suffered a 3-0 setback to Elms College this afternoon in non-conference action at Suprenant Field.
Top Performers
• Freshman midfielder Julia Sarnelli (Island Park, N.Y.) was responsible for both of Western New England's shots on goal, with both coming in the second half.
• Junior forward Brie Voight (Springfield, Mass.) provided all of the offense that Elms would need with her goal in the third minute.
Game Review
• Voight got the Blazers on the board at the 2:44 mark with her seventh goal of the season after receiving a cross from classmate Angelina Estrada (Springfield, Mass.).
• Elms doubled its lead just under seven minutes into the second half, when sophomore midfielder Kelsey Shea's (Belchertown, Mass.) shot from close range deflected off a Golden Bear defender and beat Western New England sophomore goalkeeper Marissa Veilleux (Newington, Conn.).
• Junior midfielder Jackie Soucia (Belchertown, Mass.) capped the scoring in the 84th minute when she fired a shot from 30 yards out that found the back of the net past the reach of Veilleux.
